LOCAL CUSINE

"The ... cuisine is an appealing combination of ancient rural foods (you still see people cooking in cauldrons on open fires) and superlative seafood, famous throughout Spain."

Natacha Du Pont De Bie writing in The Guardian

It´s not expensive to eat out in the many family-run restaurants and sample the varied cuisine. Galicians love their food and are happy to spend time discussing different ways of preparing their favourite dishes.

Local favourite chorizo, a spicy sausage, is often added to soups and stews enhancing the flavours.

A traditional dish is caldo, a Galician stew, made of ham, beef, chorizo, vegetables and chickpeas.

Sea-food is a speciality where the Gallegos will have nothing less than the best. There is a rich variety, the tastiest caught in the waters of the rias.
Favourites include shrimps, prawn, squid, octopus, lobster, crabs and mussels.

Everything you need to cook at home or enjoy a barbeque can be bought from the local shops or markets.
